My 1970 VW Bus
The biggest news ever!!! I got a VW bus!!!!! Just in case you didn’t see on Instagram! I am over the moon with happiness and sosososo excited for the restoration. So a little but about my bus:
Her name is June and she’s (yes my bus is a she) a 1970 Bay Window VW Bus. I bought her in Benicia a couple weekends ago, and honestly Benicia has the best classic cars everywhere! I swear every person who lives there has a super sick classic car. Anyways, I bought her from a very kind man named Ben who has had vintage VW’s his whole life and is currently restoring a ‘64 split window VW bus. He saved June my bus from getting squished in a junk yard which I’m very thankful for otherwise I wouldn’t have a bus right now.
So now about the restoration. The previous owners before Ben made their own sunroof which leaked and rusted out the floors inside. So now there’s giant holes in the driver and passenger side floor and in the back cargo area. The good news: she runs and drives perfectly (or as perfect as a VW bus can), and all the rust on the outside is surface rust, and there’s very minimal if any rust on the frame! I plan to film the restoration process and post on Instagram (@junethebus) but I’ll still give details here too and show the process throughout. What I want to do first is rip out the floors and install new ones so my foot stops pushing through the hole on the driver side. After that I feel like it’s a free for all. There’s some things I wanna clean up around the engine. I need to replace all the window seals and fix some rust around the front windshield. I want to seal off all the rust around the body. Eventually I’ll paint and reupholster but that’s pretty pricey so that’ll come later. I also want to remove the spare tire from the front and put it in the trunk after I fix the spare tire well. I have the fattest list ever of things I need and want, total spent, etc. Soooo follow June on Instagram to watch the restoration process! I’m so excited woohoo!!!!
